    Beautiful piece that brought tears to my eyes.

    (Background) The 1924 Immigration legislation was a long time coming and strongly supported by the organized labor movement. Immigration had always been supported by the (eastern republican supported) business community and clan pressure did tip a few southern democrats. But restrictions had been on tap since Teddy Roosevelt era.
